I have been missing a lot in the music arena, and I rely mostly on whatever tunes that comes out from my radio car, but this time I have to give credits to my other half on this World Youth Jazz Festival. A three day event, from 6-8 May 2016 with performers that came from all over to entertain us at Dataran Merdeka (check out http://www.worldyouthjazzfest.com/performers/), and the best part is,…it’s FREE!!! Yes, free for all to join in the crowd and groove to the music. This is the closest thing to Coachella that we can get in Malaysia, lols! 😉 Apparently this event has been around for five years, since 2012. It just really shows that I was not giving any attention to this kind of thing back then, hehehe. We were quite fortunate to have seen the performance from DBKL Jazz Combo (MALAYSIA) and The Modern Playground (PHILIPPINES) when the rain stopped at around 8.30pm, but sadly we couldn’t stay any longer because the weather was not giving its full support. Nevertheless, music does bring people together, even when it starts to drizzle, the crowd of people grew even more and they couldn’t care less, and jive to the music. I, on the other hand, headed home..booo 😥
Similar to this event, Borneo Jazz Festival is coming up this weekend which is on the 13-14 May 2016 in Miri, Sarawak. This annual event celebrates its 11th year at the Park City Everly Hotel this year, and tickets can be purchased on their official site http://www.jazzborneo.com at around RM100-RM200 depending on which package, but no worries, you can get your ticket at the event itself. Bringing jazz performers from all over the globe, such as Klazz Brothers/Cuba Percussion (Germany & Cuba), O Sister (Spain), Raw Earth (Singapore) and many more will definitely be an entertaining scene for music enthusiasts. Plus, on the 13 May 2016, an Outreach Programme (Keyboard/Piano) targeting the local musicians will be going on during the day, and it is FREE!!! So, don’t waste your time and register NOW. If you are going to Miri this weekend, my advise is; spend some time to explore the city, visit their beach, and if you are feeling adventurous, go to the famous UNESCO World Heritage-Mulu National Park. Just make sure that you have the energy to climb those beautiful pinnacles, and also you’ll catch Abraham Lincoln lounging in Mulu!
